“Vincent (Starry Starry Night)” by Don McLean (1971)

13 11 2008

Don McLean wrote and recorded “American Pie.”  As far as I’m concerned, that alone gives him all the respect and admiration I can muster.

But “Vincent” is special.  A deeply moving tribute to Vincent van Gogh, an incredible artist who died miserable and penniless, never knowing how much he would inspire and move so many generations to come.

A wonderful song for a wonderful artist.  Truly beautiful.

“And when no hope was left in sight on that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.”

(kudos to tdifatta for the great van Gogh art imagery)
