“Songbird” by Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac) (1977)

7 11 2008

Fleetwood Mac is like a supergroup to me.  Lindsay Buckingham is a personal idol, Stevie Nicks is a legend, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Christine McVie, the Mac’s keyboardist and occasional songwriter.  Her songs are beautiful, and her voice is pure, understated, and mesmerizing.

When you’re crumbly and crunched and discombobulated, maybe this song can center you.  We all need to be re-centered and re-calibrated now and again.  This track does that for me.

Can you imagine someone writing this song for you?  I would just melt.  In a manly, dignified way, of course.
