“Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!” by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (2008)

18 11 2008

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are titans of underground, independent music.  You may not know the name, but I’ll bet you will know some of the songs.  Smart film directors (like Wim Wenders) know they can inject a little Nick Cave into their scenes for great impact.  This track is from their latest album, and I’m truly pleased (but not surprised) that it’s as good as ever.

Check out the wicked guitar parts, churning and gagging and drilling forward over the solid, thick bass, and under Mr. Cave’s baritone storytelling.

I always liked Nick Cave’s music because he seems like that really wise uncle that shows up once in a while to the family reunion.  He’s usually 15 minutes ahead of everyone else in conversations, patiently waiting for the rest to catch up.  But even though he’s a lot smarter than the rest of us, he has a knack for explaining things, using whatever’s within arm’s reach.

And you can visit this uncle any time you want, as long as you have his records.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds = amazing.

If you like them, listen to the rest of the Anti- artists on their sampler. It’s great.
