“In These Shoes” by Kirsty MacColl (2000)

6 01 2009

To me, Kirsty MacColl embodies the wonderfully fierce, tenacious potential of us humans.  She sang like an angel, but an angel for real folks who work for a living, not popes and prefects.  She collaborated with a lot of fantastic artists, so you may have to search a bit for all of her music.  But if you dig her “soul” as much as I do, you’ll love discovering her music on your own.

She died shortly after recording this track.  She was killed by a reckless boater while swimming with her family in Mexico.  But in her last act, before being struck, she pushed her son out of harm’s way.

Fierce and tenacious to the end.  RIP Ms MacColl.
